Reiki Explained

Reiki is an ancient system of healing derived from Tibetan Buddhism. The word Rei means “Spiritual Intelligence” and Ki “life force energy.” Reiki is a very specific form of energy healing in which hands are placed lightly on the body or just off the body. It is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Life force flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras and meridians. It also flows around us in a field of energy call the aura. Life force nourishes the organs, glands and cells of the body. When the life force is disrupted by negative thoughts and feelings, they attach to the energy field and cause disruption in the flow of life force. When one’s Ki is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stressed potentially creating discomfort and disease in the body. If it is high, we are more capable of feeling strong, confident and ready to enjoy life and take on its challenges.
HOW WE CAN HELP

The Benefits

During a session, Reiki is administered by a Reiki practitioner who has been attuned to the Reiki energy and serves as a conduit through whom the Universal life force energy can be transmitted to the recipient, either by hands-on or distance healing techniques. Reiki balances the flow of Ki to heal a problem on whatever level it may exist – body, mind or spirit.

This non-invasive, multi-dimensional energy is powerful, yet gentle, making it an ideal adjunct therapy for chronic pain sufferers and for various illnesses and injuries. It is safe for pregnant women and children. Reiki can also induce deep relaxation enabling the mind to better solve mental and emotional problems and develop higher consciousness to achieve life-long goals of good health, an abundant, peaceful, and content life.

Reiki being a benign healing technique is becoming more and more popular. Reiki is being used in many medical settings. Hospitals employ practitioners to give Reiki treatments to patients both in the hospital, particularly before and after surgery, and to those visiting as out-patients. At the Center For Integrative & Traditional Medicine, Theresa Obssuth, Reiki Master, is available for sessions.
