Integrative Medicine Doctor Hudson County — The Doctor Who Actually Asks What Else You're Already Doing
If you had a home remedy, a tea, an ointment, or a treatment that was passed on to you in your family and you never told a doctor about it because no one asked, you're not alone, and it's not a little thing left out. CITM is an integrative medicine practice based in Hudson County, centered around the common base of medical visits: the simple habit most of us don't do: asking what we're doing well and working with it, not against it.
Hudson County is one of the most diverse areas in the state and there are examples of that on the health front all over, from a cure that comes from a grandparent to an over-the-counter remedy picked back up after a visit home, to a tea to soothe stress, to a treatment that’s never made it into a doctor’s chart; no one asked, no one assumed. It’s where integrative medicine at CITM begins. Not another thing you trust, but to ensure that it is working alongside your medical care, not quietly against it, or simply out of view of the ones who are taking care of you.
Integrative Medicine Doctor Hudson County: Meet Dr. Roman Finn
Your care is managed by the Medical Director of the Center for Integrative & Traditional Medicine, Roman E. Finn, M.D. Since 1981, Dr. Finn has been treating patients with traditional and alternative treatments and has also taken a step towards mainstream medicine for conditions such as immune system disorders, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fibromyalgia, depression, and musculoskeletal disease, among others, using a combination of mainstream medicine, herbal medicine, and homeopathy.
Credentials:
- Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine
- Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management
- Diplomat of the American Board of Disability Analysts
- Named America’s Best Physicians 2021
- International Health Professional of the Year 2005, Cambridge, England
- Practicing traditional and alternative therapies since 1981
Dr. Finn’s long experience incorporating herbal medicine, homeopathy, and conventional practice means that this is not a doctor who is first hearing about the other medicine – it’s a doctor who has been trained to understand how to assess them in combination with conventional medicine.
What an Integrative Care Hudson County Visit Actually Looks Like
Imagine the first time you visited CITM. First up, before anything else, they ask you a question most of the time gets glossed over during appointments: What else do you do to keep your health? Do you take teas, ointments, supplements, etc., passed down or brought home? Not for formality, but because it will determine what comes next.
Tell them that the answer is a ‘stress’ remedy that grandma always used or a supplement that a family member sent them from overseas. That never gets waved aside, nor does it go unnoticed. It’s the same way Dr. Finn looks at a prescription: what does it contain, does it interact with anything else you may be taking, and does it merit a rightful spot in your plan moving forward? Sometimes it remains the same. Dosage or timing changes for safety reasons. Either way, now it’s a part of a plan that a physician is aware of, instead of one that nobody asked about in your chart.
That is the point of the integrative medicine visit: not choosing one or the other of the modalities you’ve always used or relied on, but having one physician who can give them both a fair assessment, rather than pretending there is one and not the other.
Integrative Health Hudson County: A Quick Self-Check
If you’ve ever found yourself in any of these situations, an integrative medicine consultation might be helpful:
- You consume an herbal medicine, tea, or traditional medicine that you have never discussed with a doctor.
- You’ve thought that something you are taking may interact with a prescription, but you haven’t asked
- Health is something you take care of in part via family and cultural practices, and in part through Western medicine, but no one is linking these two
- You’ve rushed through an appointment, not being able to get to everything on your list
- You want a doctor who asks all questions—not just the ones on a standard intake formÂ
The Question We Ask That Most Visits Skip
A typical 15-minute appointment covers your main complaint and maybe your prescriptions. It rarely asks: what else are you taking, trying, or doing that isn’t on a prescription pad? That single missing question matters more than it seems – some herbal treatments interact with medications. Some home remedies are genuinely effective and worth building into a plan rather than working around. Either way, a doctor can’t do their job well without knowing the full picture, and most visits never ask for it.

I have been going to Dr. Finn's office for over 15 years and I am very happy with the services and treatment I receive. Dr. Finn always listens to his patients and tries to get to the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I like that he always recommends using natural and alternative methods first instead of prescribing medications right away. I also go for a physical therapy at his office for my back problems. His physical therapist is very knowledgeable and massage therapists, Galina and Shirley, are the best! They always welcome me with the smile and are very attentive. I would not think of going anywhere else. Keep up a great job Dr. Finn and The Staff!!Posted on Google

Frequently Asked Questions: Integrative Medicine Doctor in Hudson County
A doctor of integrative medicine looks at all of the treatments you are already taking – prescription medications, supplements or home remedies – and creates a single plan that incorporates them all. Dr. Roman Finn oversees this integrative medicine approach to Hudson County patients at CITM.
No. The idea at CITM is to give an objective, non-judgemental input of all items you use, and thus your plan is created on that basis instead of what is possible on a typical form.
It depends on the specific remedy and medication – some combinations are fine, others aren’t. This is why this is reviewed directly with a physician, instead of being guessed at.
They overlap. Functional medicine is based on lab work to determine the root cause. Holistic medicine focuses on lifestyle and complementary medicine. Integrative medicine at CITM is distinct from integrating different types of medicine, it’s about combining traditional, complementary and conventional medicine, all under the same physician’s care.
Not necessarily. Some stay in your plan following review, others might be altered to fit the safety. The decision is taken jointly, as a result of information, not as a default.
Coverage may vary depending on the plan and the type of services. Give our team a call (201) 291-0401, and we will discuss the coverage when you make your booking.
Your initial evaluation will be done face-to-face, and many subsequent visits will be done by telehealth, like our Holistic Doctor Hudson County visits.
