CITM

Functional Medicine MD Serving Bergen, Passaic & Hudson County, NJ

If you've ever left a doctor's office with a prescription – no explanation as to why you're sick – you'll know just how rare that is. Here at CITM, Dr. Roman Finn and our integrative staff delve into the root cause of your symptoms – and not the one that may be covered up by prescription drugs.

Dr Roman Finn of CITM

You’ve been to doctor after doctor, all asking pretty much the same questions, ordering the same tests, and giving you the same prescription: everything is fine. In the meantime, you still don’t feel like yourself. Here at CITM we ask a different question: why does your body do this in the first place? and not, what pill will fix this symptom?

What Functional Medicine Actually Means at CITM

Most medicine is designed to cure what ails them. Fatigue? Here’s a stimulant. Digestive trouble? Here’s an antacid. High blood sugar? Here’s a prescription. The tougher question that’s usually overlooked is why does your body create that symptom to begin with?

It is here that functional medicine plays a role and that is why it is important to have an MD. Because Dr. Finn is a licensed physician, your evaluation won’t just consist of diet and exercise recommendations – it will be complete, with full diagnostic powers, prescription authority when necessary, and a seamless relationship with the rest of your medical care. We examine how gut, hormones, immune system and lifestyle are actually linked, and then create a plan that is customized to your findings – not a cookie cutter plan.

What Sets Our Practice Apart

A Licensed MD Leading Your Care

Dr Finn isn’t just throwing the term wellness about – he is a doctor who can run a full diagnostic, interpret it medically, and prescribe if necessary and appropriate, all in one visit.

A Full Team, Not a Solo Practice

Your case isn’t looked at by only one provider. Along with Dr. Finn, our gastroenterology specialist, certified naturopath and nutritionist work together to develop your treatment plan.

We Actually Have Time for You

Initial consultations are planned to be deep, not ten minutes in-between.

Testing That Looks Deeper

We do not stop at a normal panel that returns normal when you are still sick. We examine the whole picture – hormones, inflammation and gut function – which is not captured in traditional blood tests.

Conventional and Holistic, Under One Roof

Do not have to opt for either a medical doctor or a holistic provider. CITM is a practice of internal medicine, gastroenterology, chelation and IV nutrient therapy, and naturopathic care all in one.

We Explain What We’re Doing and Why

You will go out with your results and your own plan, not having a piece of paper you don’t understand.

Root Causes We Investigate

If symptoms are not making sense, or routine tests continue to be negative, the answer is likely in the following areas:

Hormonal Imbalance – Thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, and changing estrogen/testosterone levels impact more than you think – including your energy, mood, weight, and sleep.

Gut Health Breakdown – Digestive Dysfunction doesn’t remain confined to digestion. A poor gut can cause immune problems, inflammation and even mood.

Chronic Inflammation – Low grade inflammation is the cause of many conditions that are never fully identified.

Nutrient Gaps – Deficiencies you wouldn’t even know about can creep up and take your life energy and immune strength from you.

Autoimmune Dysregulation – If your immune system starts attacking your own tissue, you may experience symptoms long before there is a diagnosis.

Unmanaged Stress Load – Chronic stress is not a mental disorder — it actually impacts your hormones, digestion and sleep over time.

Is This You?

  • You’ve heard your tests are ‘normal’ and you don’t feel normal
  • Chronic condition and need something more than a prescription refill every appointment
  • You’ve consulted 3-4 doctors and they have not been able to make any links between them
  • Feeling tired, foggy or having digestive problems that don’t ever go away
  • When you want a doctor who will listen to you, you want a doctor who has the time
  • You prefer to know the reasons for your illness rather than the manner in which you feel

If any of this sounds familiar, this is the type of case that we are designed to help with.

I have been going to Dr. Finn's office for over 15 years and I am very happy with the services and treatment I receive. Dr. Finn always listens to his patients and tries to get to the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I like that he always recommends using natural and alternative methods first instead of prescribing medications right away. I also go for a physical therapy at his office for my back problems. His physical therapist is very knowledgeable and massage therapists, Galina and Shirley, are the best! They always welcome me with the smile and are very attentive. I would not think of going anywhere else. Keep up a great job Dr. Finn and The Staff!!

Frequently Asked Questions: Functional Medicine in NJ

What actually happened on my first visit?

Dr. Finn will review all your medical history, not just what you are experiencing now, but any other lab results, prescriptions, and other factors that you have had. Next, we’ll decide what further testing is necessary (if any), before designing your treatment program.

It varies depending on your particular plan and services being billed. Please contact our Paramus office at (201) 291-0401 and the staff will be able to discuss what will apply prior to booking.

Your primary care physician is likely to be dealing with brief office visit frames specific to a particular issue. During a functional medicine visit with your MD you will get a longer, more comprehensive assessment (not just symptoms and side effects).

We work collaboratively with your existing experts. If you have records and lab results from previous visits, you can help us continue to build on results and help us not have to start all over again.

This is based on the reason for your symptoms. In some cases, changes may be felt within a few weeks, in more complicated, chronic cases, it may take longer. Together at your initial appointment we will set realistic expectations.

One of the most frequent reasons for patients seeking out our services. Standard ranges are developed for population averages, but a functional medicine evaluation is based on your personal range, not just if the number is technically within the standard range.

You can schedule an appointment to CITM without a referral.
