Functional Medicine Practitioners Serving Bergen County, NJ - Holistic Health Solutions
If you've tried the routine treatment of a specialist, a prescription, a pill – and you still don't feel better, you may need a different kind of assessment. CITM's functional medicine practitioners are located in Paramus in the heart of Bergen County, and treat patients from all over the county, uncovering what is truly causing chronic symptoms, instead of treating them individually.
Meet the Team Behind Your Treatment Plan
- Dr. Roman Finn, Functional & Integrative Medicine – provides Root Cause Treatment Planning specializing in Autoimmune and Chronic Inflammatory conditions
- Gastroenterology Specialist – a professional specializing in digestive system who is involved in cases where the digestive system is suspected to be a major cause of the problem
- Certified Naturopathic Practitioner – incorporates medical treatment and natural, lifestyle-based therapies
- Certified Nutritionist – can interpret lab results and create a nutrition plan that is personalized and practical
Your treatment plan is not finalized until your case is reviewed by these disciplines in unison, as opposed to a single specialty office, and this is the difference between a functional medicine practice and the typical visit to a specialist.
Â
Bergen County has one of the highest proportions of specialists in the state which can lead to patients going to five specialists with no one linking them up. We’re here, our staff of functional medicine doctors, to be that one plan; to look at your health as a whole, and develop one plan for you instead of five.
The Bergen County Difference: Coordinated Care, Not Fragmented Care
When patients come to CITM, they typically have a bundle of test results from other Bergen County providers. Our functional medical doctors will not start over again, but will instead take time to review everything that has already been done – then see what is missing: was the hormone panel not ordered, was the gut health connection not explored, was the inflammation marker not followed up on?
What Sets a Functional Medicine Practitioner Apart
| Bergen County Specialist Visit | CITM Functional Medicine Visit | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | One organ system or condition | Whole-body, cross-system evaluation |
| Coordination | Typically operates independently | Summarises and synthesises previous specialist research |
| Testing philosophy | Standard reference ranges | Specify functional ranges, wider panels if necessary |
| Treatment style | Often medication-first | Root-cause plan: nutrition, lifestyle, medication, and doctor’s supervision |
| Follow-up model | As-needed, symptom-driven | Structured reassessment based on measurable progress |

How a Bergen County Patient's First 90 Days Typically Look
- Visit 1 – Full Intake: Detailed background, review of previous specialist records from the Bergen County Health System, and discussion of your health history.
- Testing Phase: Focused labs to address gaps created by previous testing – not duplicating earlier testing.
- Visit 2 – Plan Review: Results are explained in simple terms and a personalized plan is developed that includes nutrition, lifestyle and any necessary therapies.
- 30-60 Day Check-In: Early feedback is followed-up with adjustments to the plan as needed based on what is actually helping you.
- 90-Day Reassessment: Measures real progress from a starting point through follow-up testing.

I have been going to Dr. Finn's office for over 15 years and I am very happy with the services and treatment I receive. Dr. Finn always listens to his patients and tries to get to the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I like that he always recommends using natural and alternative methods first instead of prescribing medications right away. I also go for a physical therapy at his office for my back problems. His physical therapist is very knowledgeable and massage therapists, Galina and Shirley, are the best! They always welcome me with the smile and are very attentive. I would not think of going anywhere else. Keep up a great job Dr. Finn and The Staff!!Posted on Google

Frequently Asked Questions: Functional Medicine Practitioners Bergen County
Specialists usually specialize in a single organ system at a time. So a functional medicine practitioner’s job is to glean from all those answers and sync them up – a gut problem causing an autoimmune response, a hormone imbalance causing fatigue, which a cardiologist wouldn’t be thinking about.
Yes. When you come in for your first appointment, you can take any existing records and lab results with you to avoid unnecessary repeat tests and concentrate on the area that hasn’t been explored before.
Functional medicine is not a step away from medical treatment – it’s a step toward it that includes the lifestyle and natural-therapy aspects of naturopathic medicine in addition to the conventional medical diagnostics and physician oversight.
One of the most frequently cited reasons for Bergen County patients seeking our services is this. Standard reference ranges are created for the average of all the people in a population, not for you.
Depending on the services involved and the specific plan, coverage may include certain services. Call our Paramus office, (201) 291-0401, and we will discuss what is applicable to your situation before booking.
Availability varies. Initial visits are longer and more extensive than a routine visit, so please phone before making an appointment to ensure your booking is available within the same week.
Yes – although our office is located in Bergen County, we have patients from Passaic and Hudson Counties as well.
