Autoimmune Doctor Passaic North Jersey – Looking at What's Around You, Not Just What's Inside You

Autoimmune diseases do not just happen. Genetics set the tone for the gun, but environmental exposure, chronic infections, and chronic stress often pull the trigger – and knowing what these factors might be and what long-term treatment is required depends on how the gun pulls. That investigation is the core of an autoimmune doctor who's based in Passaic County, North Jersey. Dr. Roman Finn takes the time to examine your entire health, including all your exposures and family history that most visits will never ask about, so he can develop a plan based on your unique triggers instead of a diagnosis code.

Dr Roman Finn Autoimmune Care in Passaic County

Physicians Supporting Your Autoimmune Care in Passaic County

  • Dr. Roman Finn – board-certified nutritional doctor specializing in functional, root-cause autoimmune disease treatment

  • Scott David Lippe, MD – gastroenterology collaboration with regard to gut-related autoimmune triggers

  • Lev Vyshedsky, L.Ac – acupuncture as needed to help with inflammation and flare management

  • Continuous treatment by one doctor so exposures and patterns observed years later are not missed between visits

That continuity is often what brings a connection to the surface; a single isolated visit would not naturally.

Environmental and Occupational Triggers Worth Investigating

Passaic County’s blend of residential and industrial communities can mean that a person’s work history is often a relevant factor in his or her autoimmune risk that would not be included in a standard medical visit, but is found in the research literature for certain chemicals, heavy metals, and industrial byproducts. An auto-immune doctor will take a detailed exposure history along with a comprehensive review of symptoms – a workplace or past living situation may be just as important as anything appearing on a lab panel. Information that is relevant to a case that became symptomatic only very recently can also be obtained from exposure years ago.

Conditions Commonly Evaluated

  • Autoimmune thyroiditis (including Hashimoto’s disease)

  • Inflammatory joint diseases and rheumatoid arthritis

  • Lupus and systemic autoimmune involvement

  • Psoriasis and auto-immune skin diseases

  • Gut related autoimmune disorders such as Celiac disease

Family and shared environment influences are also shared, so they are discussed together, and a patient’s complete assessment is conducted beyond the condition for which he or she is seeking treatment – hence the importance of a comprehensive evaluation.

How Testing Builds a Complete Picture

Your evaluation begins with taking a detailed history from you, including when symptoms first occurred, family history, occupational and environmental exposures, and what you’ve already tried. Testing then goes beyond antibody panels to include nutrient status, chronic infection markers and inflammatory markers that are not always included in a routine screening. The results are all read together, rather than one at a time, because a pattern of several markers may have more significance than any one marker read alone, and the overall pattern will help determine a treatment plan that is appropriate for your individual case, rather than for a diagnosis alone.

A Treatment Plan Built Around Your Actual Triggers

Care includes a range of measures once any trigger factors have been identified, such as dietary changes to minimize inflammation and food triggers, exposure reduction measures if applicable and continued management of medications if clinically required. Acupuncture is used selectively to aid reduction in flare and control inflammation. Since autoimmune disorders do not always respond to a single protocol for an extended period of time, the plan is reevaluated regularly as symptoms, labs and frequencies of flares change. A period of stability often means that the investment approach is showing promise and should be continued and developed, rather than the time to ignore it.

Why Passaic County Families Choose This Kind of Autoimmune Care

Autoimmune diseases often have a family history and Passaic County patients are more likely to involve more than just themselves in the discussion – a parent’s Hashimoto’s, a sibling’s psoriasis, growing up in the same environment. A review of that context can reveal patterns that may not be apparent in one person’s visit to the clinic, even if the symptoms do not appear to be similar at first glance among the various members of a family. Everyone is assigned a unique plan, and the family environment provides greater clues for further investigation.

I have been going to Dr. Finn's office for over 15 years and I am very happy with the services and treatment I receive. Dr. Finn always listens to his patients and tries to get to the root of the problem instead of just treating the symptoms. I like that he always recommends using natural and alternative methods first instead of prescribing medications right away. I also go for a physical therapy at his office for my back problems. His physical therapist is very knowledgeable and massage therapists, Galina and Shirley, are the best! They always welcome me with the smile and are very attentive. I would not think of going anywhere else. Keep up a great job Dr. Finn and The Staff!!

Frequently Asked Questions: Autoimmune Doctor in Passaic County

Can environmental exposure actually cause an autoimmune condition?

Various types of exposures at work and in the environment have been associated with an increased risk of developing autoimmune conditions, although usually these are only one of multiple risk factors. Histories of exposure are included in a thorough evaluation by an autoimmune doctor, but not ignored, because most routine appointments don’t ask for this information.

An autoimmune doctor at CITM supports a doctor’s diagnosis and specifically looks at the underlying causes and/or triggers of the autoimmune disorder instead of just treating the symptoms with medication. The two roles do not overlap but are complementary.

A referral is not necessary. Patients have a direct appointment line with the autoimmune care team within CITM.

Yes. Many autoimmune diseases also have a genetic component, and even if the same family members are diagnosed with different diseases, it may be useful to consider the family history as a piece of context, as the genetic and environmental risk factors may overlap. A common household history can help fill in additional context, along with genes.

Not automatically. Medication will generally be a part of the plan when clinically warranted and managed in conjunction with dietary modifications, supplementation, and other therapies, and not immediately stopped. Changes are carefully made and coordinated with your prescribing specialist.

Changes can be noticed within the first few months, depending on the condition and the number of factors involved, as specific triggers are identified and addressed. If several triggers overlap, cases are likely to take a longer time to stabilize completely.

Coverage is dependent on the type of service and your particular plan. Please give us a call at (201) 291-0401 to verify what applies prior to your visit.
